Worst Travel Day Ever … or at least to date.

So let's recap … had a good start to the day, leaving Thousand Trails in Williamsburg VA. Got on the road by 12:30 for a 3 1/2 hour trip to Baltimore, for a 2 night stop at Bar Harbor RV Park.

We get on the road, but need to stop for fuel as we only have about 1/3 tank. Pull off an exit for fuel, but while driving by the gas station I don't like the setup and don't want to stop there. Ok back on the highway, 1 exit later I see a sign for Pilot. Great, we stop for fuel at Pilot – paying only $1.86/gallon WOO HOO.

Check the car straps, get back on the highway and the generator stops running. Ok, let's pull off and take a look. Got genny running again, check the car straps and back on the highway we go, genny stops again 1/2 hour later.

Then it gets worse …

While we're pulled over working on the generator, there's been a major accident up ahead on I-64. Traffic is completely stopped. We manage to get going again and eventually hit the traffic jam — bumper to bumper for an hour.

Ok, the traffic finally clears and we're moving again. The generator is now behaving itself. We get to the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and … wait for it … it's CLOSED. Some accident in the tunnel. Great.

So we need to take a detour. The GPS sends us around the long way. While on the detour, we hit MORE traffic. At this point it's been about 5 hours into what should have been a 3 1/2 hour trip.

We finally get to the campground at about 8pm. What should have been a 3 1/2 hour trip turned into a 7+ hour marathon. Generator issues, traffic accidents, bridge-tunnel closure, and detour after detour.

But you know what? We made it. The dogs got walked, we had dinner, cracked open some drinks, and laughed about the whole thing. Because that's what RV life is about — it's never boring. 🍻

Worst travel day ever? Probably. Would we do it all again? Absolutely.
